Statement from NA World Services on the current health situation

We recognize that you have understandable questions and concerns about how the Coronavirus may affect the World Service Conference. Currently, we are proceeding as if the WSC is taking place as scheduled, but the situation is unfolding rapidly. In some respects, the Conference is right around the corner. In other respects, with the speed at which this news is breaking, it’s actually a long way off. We are not making light of the situation. We are monitoring official sources of information, and we will offer more information as the situation becomes clearer, and as we are able.

Some good news is that airlines are instituting very broad policies about cancelations. We expect that each of you will make plans based on your specific health issues and concerns. However, given the flexibility that the airlines are demonstrating, we encourage you not to make firm decisions right now. We will stay on top of this and let you know what we know when we know. We are grateful we don’t have to make any further decisions today.

It is not our role to make statements regarding health issues. We are following the guidelines and recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and encourage those within the USA to do the same. Those outside the USA may want to seek guidance from a similar resource in your country, or the World Health Organization (WHO).

One group’s approach

…but feel free to come up with your own at your group conscience

The Tuesday night group in Eustace St held a group conscience. We wanted to discuss how the group could adapt the HSE guidelines to make our group a safer place for our members while the Corona Virus is a threat. There were 26 members in attendance and the input was positive. We reached a consensus to adapt the following measures. To ensure soap and sanitary gel are in the bathroom and surfaces are wiped down. To make our collection by having a cup on the table instead of passing it around. To suspend tea and coffee. To form a circle but not link for serenity prayer. And to refrain from hugging We agreed to review every week as the situation evolves.
In loving service
Eustace St Group
